Introduction
A relatively remote and still largely untouched coastline lies between Manzanillo and Puerto Vallarta. Popularly known as Costalegre (Happy Coast), this region was opened by highway for the first time in 1973, making it possible to drive north from Manzanillo (or south from Puerto Vallarta) along a 175-mile stretch of pristine hills, beaches, tropical jungles, bays and inlets.
This coastal stretch is home to three idyllic bays — Tenacatita, Chamela and Navidad — and destinations like Cruz de Loreto, Quemaro, San Patricio Melaque and Barra de Navidad. Accommodations ranging from ultra luxurious to budget dot the coastline.
