Introduction

Mexico City is surrounded on three sides — to the east, north and west — by the State of Mexico, a heavily industrial and at the same time woodsy region with an abundance of lakes and parkland, as well as volcanoes, ruins and handicraft-producing towns. Many of these are accessible as day trips from Mexico City, including the state’s most famous draw, the ruins of Teotihuacan. Following, a few other options.
